Chicago Darlings Part 1

Photographed a bunch of amazing families in Chicago a couple weeks ago...

and here's the first post!

Yael (mom) and I actually went to college together, and havent seen each other in eons. Thanks to Facebook, we recently connected...she sent me a super nice note about my work...where i then noticed that she lived in Chicago...where i had a trip planned in a couple weeks. Perfect!

We had an amazing time photographing her family. Oh my gosh...Benjamin with the golden locks. He tilts the happy scale to the max and is just too adorable. Baby sister Phoebe is following close behind and although she only has a couple teeth, she's practicing her older brother's smile! Which is all no surprise, because if i have one vision of Yael in college, it is one big puffy cloud of smile!

What a treat it was to photograph your family Yael!
All the best to you guys.

1-80 from here to there and here again

I love maps.
I love globes.
And as great as the iphone and all other GPS gadgets are, there is nothing like a big huge roadmap for the car.
Who knew that basically one road (I-80) literally goes from NYC all the way to Chicago...straight through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois....of course it keeps going, but i didnt turn the page in the map book this trip.

Thought I'd share a few snaps from the road!

Andrew made hard boiled eggs for the road...and he packed little salt and pepper shakers. It was business class!

Andrew took this as we were driving...and i LOVE it!!

We actually pulled over in Pennsylvania to take this shot..there were so many lovely ponds all around, with the reflection, blah blah...and then a cop pulled up behind us! Hey, we've got New York plates! We dont see this kind of thing every day! Andrew said, "oh, we're just taking a picture of the pond." The cop looked up at checked out the pond, and then said, ok. I think i heard him mumble, crazy new yorkers. But i cant be sure.

Olivia + Kurt...E-session

An 'e-session' is one of the terms these days for an 'engagement session'...i like it i think...
its like one of those terms that you try to find a different word for, and eventually something sticks.
Engagement session just sounds lame.

like the word fiance
when we got engaged, i really thought that word was also super lame!
but as much as i tried to find a different word, this is my guy, my soon to be, my BF, my other half, ugh, gag, all of them make me cringe. alas, now i can call him my husband...which is not super lame at all, in fact is quite fun!

ANYWAY!!!
I digress!

Olivia + Kurt are getting hitched next year..and we'll be there for that!

But a few weeks ago we spent the day enjoying NYC...
a camera or two + two lovebirds + the rain that stayed away = loveliness.

Enjoy your e-days O+K!
xx

(p.s. i loved when we were at the Standard, and a guy came over and said, 'my girlfriend and i have a bet..are you guys doing engagement pictures?' guess who won! yes, his GF had definitely heard of an engagement session...he on the other hand, might want to put it on the list of all the things he'll learn once he pops the question! )

Chelsea Wasnt the Only One...

I admit, I did love all the hype around Chelsea's wedding...loved looking at the 3 shots that were released to us commonfolk to analyze (and analyze i did). As a wedding photographer, i love that people love weddings!

but on that absolutely gorgeous, probably MOST gorgeous day of the entire summer here in NYC, Chelsea wasnt the only one that got hitched.

Michelle + Alex had a stunning wedding at Wave Hill in the Bronx.

Andrew and I concluded that it was one of the lovey-est weddings ever...because the guests themselves seemed to all be having a mini wedding of their own! There were so many couples having the time of their life together, it was awesome! (plus there was a big texas contigency which i always love!)

Hope you guys are having a great time in Tahiti!

Thanks for inviting us to document your day.
xx

I was born in CLEVELAND.

To me, Cleveland feels like a trip to 1950.

Maybe it has to do with my grandmother's house.

Maybe it has to do with the perfectly manicured lawns everywhere you look.

Maybe it has to do with the low buildings...or the quiet in the air.

Whatever it is, Cleveland feels like a time capsule to me.

I kind of feel like I might see Beaver and Ward at the Trader Joe's. But i havent just yet.

It doesnt feel disposable.

It feels reliable. Like a Waring Blender that stands the test of time.

Took Andrew to a classic spot for corned beef on rye
(yes i'm a vegetarian. but somehow a tiny slice of corned beef ended up in my gullet-i was raised on this stuff!)

My Grams

Just returned from 10 days on the Cleveland-Chicago circuit.

We spent a couple nights on each end with my Grams in Cleveland...my 93 year young Grams if i might add.

Can i just say, i think she does more upkeep on her house than I do?
She changes the sheets, she empties the humidifier, she waters the lawn, she pulls the drapes, she irons the clothes, she washes the dishes, she makes pies, she reads voraciously, she needlepoints just the same, she swims 5x a week, and she gives me lots of crap when i dont know the meaning of a word in scrabble that she puts down.

I did a photo essay on Grams in the beginning of my photo career. She was fascinating then. And now, almost 10 years later, she hasnt skipped a beat.

(She also hates when i take her picture! You think she'd be used to it by now...)

It's ALMOST that time!

Andrew has been super busy over the past few months designing and making a new lines of TABLES!

They are officially finished! And we've spent many late nights photographing the hell out of these bad boys.

I cant wait to share the shots, the tables, and the new site...COMING SOON.

but in the meantime, i cant resist posting a couple behind the scenes pics from our shoot yesterday...the designer himself was a model in one of the shots.
yeah baby!

(the great thing about the photo shoot, with a stylist, is that he couldnt say no! he had to wear what we wanted him to wear. i think i'm going to tell him that every day from now on we are going to have a photo shoot. haha!)

OUR wedding, on Brooklyn Bride

Vane over at Brooklyn Bride posted about our wedding...which is kind of out of body, to see Andrew and I as a "Real Wedding." Its quite trippy to be on the other side of things...and so much fun!

Anyway, right in time for our 6 month anniversary, i thought i'd share!
